Even after booking all the shows I thought I was going to go see at the comedy festival I should know by now not to say “definitely not” as when I saw Maxine’s sister Felix post about this show on socials I knew I had to go see it no matter that I had four shows on the next day. I have known Maxine from this group since 2003 and have the photos of her as a small person to prove it. Unlike at Pollyman shows I did not get to show random people the photos.

The story is the tale of a business frog and a fly who in exchange for not being eaten agrees to search for the frog’s boot that leads them overseas and eventually to the moon. Whimsical gets thrown around a lot to describe things but yeah it was pretty much. Also strong physical comedy in a way that is not really done that much apart from the rise in clown-type comedy that has become more popular in recent years.

I quite like the staging even though it is a bit bare-bones. It helps convey the “child-like” type wonder in the show and gets the audience to fill in the blanks with their own imagination. If you had full sets and effects and everything was slick looking it would be a different show!

There were different scenes in the show with just the frog, the fly and also the third character who stood in for various characters such as the boss, the picnic vendor, the big apple and the moon.

The Frog and the Fly worked quite well together with my favourite bit being the trip to the moon but also the swimming in the pond sequence was great too and showed off the physical comedy and movement parts of the show.

This was a great show with a lot of really fun bits. It may have helped the audience was full of friends and family for this performance. Unfortunately it has now finished its run but hopefully the company gets to have more productions on in the future.
