Trades Hall – Common Rooms, Saturday 19th October 2023

For the second time this year I find myself at a show of some performers who I really should have seen in the 17 years I had been seeing them at other things (10 years of those at the ASRC benefits) but I can’t even explain why I never got to see them until now.

From even the other event I saw them at when they are doing covers and other appearances around the place I already know what sort of act they do and it is evergreen even if the actual band it was based on does not really do that much these days.

Special mention to the band being from Germany but always finding itself in Melbourne. A friend actually had a photo of the White Stripes playing at the Tote to about 2 people on their fridge. Elventy-squillion people now say they were at the particular gig when they were clearly not!

This show was pretty full if not sold out, they told people to fill every seat although I must be super stinky as no one ever sits next to me and then the people who are super disorganised always end up asking me to move as they can’t get their shit together to get there on time.

There was a good variety of songs which everyone seemed to enjoy and even I knew them somehow having not actually gotten any of their music. Must have just been around enough to know what they are doing. Not sure if they will be a USB shaped like a guitar like Tripod does the “stick of Tripod”.

For just two people on stage they do make it into a varied and interesting show. Like my friends’ band the Cartridge Family it is about 50% jokes and 50% music and having a narrative to go along with the music does bring something extra to it.

This was the perfect warm-up show for the Global Smash Club across the landing and hopefully I will go less than 17 years before I see them again.

If you have wanted to see this group but haven’t gotten around to it I would definitely go!
