Restorations
Featuring music videos restored by Piccolo Films by the artists Black Sorrows, Renee Geyer, Machinations, Men at Work, Mental as Anything, Crowded House, Split Enz, Sharon O’Neill, Sunnyboys, Midnight Oil, Flotsam Jetsam, Swingers and others. There is also a documentary showing footage from several community radio stations in the early 1980s including 3CR and RRR FM including Stephen Walker doing a piece to camera.
As this program was mainly music videos there is not really that much to review about it, you just sit back and enjoy.
Featured videos as much as I could remember, the production company said some of the clips didn’t really have a title:
Community to Commercial documentary
Celibate Rifles
I need a friend – Sunnyboys
vSpy vSpy – One of a Kind
Mental as Anything – Don’t Tell Me Now
Renee Geyer – Say I love you
Machinations – Pressure Sway
Split Enz – Strait Old Line
Midnight Oil – Peter Garret at the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal
Flotsam Jetsam – 115 BPM
Sharon O’Neill – Maxine
The Black Sorrows – What a Difference a Day Makes
Crowded House – World Where You Live
Men At Work – Who can it be now?
Swingers – Counting the Beat
Q&A with Pauly P from RRR FM
Q – Have there been any unexepected challenges?
A – The “garage collection” as not all the original film was kept in archival conditions, was a lot kept in sheds that has degraded.
Q: How did you do the swinging room in the Crowded House clip?
A: It already existed, they just borrowed it.
Q: Where there any failed pitches?
A: They wouldn’t have still been working if the bands didn’t like their ideas
Q: vs Spy vs Spy video location?
A: Stockdon beach (the ship is no longer there)
Q: Will there be a Bluray/DVD release?
A: Too many rights issues at the moment. There was a Richard Lowenstein concert film that did not include Mental As Anything at all in it (detailed in their book).
Q: How did the Renee Geyer film clip come about?
A: This was actually the third try at a clip. Was shot at her manager’s house. Renee was enjoying throwing the food around and shoving it in Gudinski’s gob.
