It’s always difficult when someone famous from their social media posts or YouTube does a show when they are famous for the one thing and they can’t do that thing in the show. Specifically SEZ said neither the Butterfly Club or the Comedy Festival would let her take a shit on stage, that would be more of a Fringe Festival show anyway.

The audience was disgustingly familiar with SEZ, it seems everyone seemed to know her ex and also the dude who was masturbating on the train “had been doing it for a while” around town. Not sure how well this show is going to travel outside of Melbourne. Seeing as SEZ originally came from the Blue Mountains it says a lot but anytime you come from somewhere to the city all your friends will be in the city especially with the Retreat Hotel being a real hangout for younger people as it was when I was going there 20 years ago – https://blog.timchuma.com/2023/10/retreat-hotel-gigs-2003-2023/

Even though the show says “Digital Footprint” that is more a function of the names for comedy festival shows having to be thought up last year, this show was SEZ’s first album about her struggles with relationships and living in Melbourne.

I am not the audience for this show as SEZ is half my age and most of the audience seemed to be too. At least I can say I got to see her and she was not as obnoxious as Friendlyjordies and cooler and more local than Nat’s What I Reckon. Julian O’Shea seems to have gotten on well with his shows this year but I am not going to see anything else other than what I already booked.

Again as with Mike McLeish’s show this reminds me of something I would have seen from the wave of musical comedians that came onto the scene 20 years ago like Josh Earl, the Bedroom Philosopher and Tim Minchin. Maybe I will wait a couple of years and go to see her again to see how much she has developed.

This has almost finished its’ run and the Saturday the 20th April show is SEZ’s birthday so I am sure that one is already sold out also. Seems to have been a bit of a rough festival for some people, so many discounts, 2-4-1 deals and show comps being given out this year, hopefully things improve next year.
