I had seen the tear off “lost cat” poster for this when I was at the venue the previous week for Alice Fraser’s work in progress show but was not sure if I would actually make it. As it turned out having Sez starting at a non-standard time actually worked out better for me with this as I did not want to have to rush between venues and I had done the transfer between Town Hall and the venue the week before and did not trust it.

This is the live action version of the famous XKCD “Cat Proximity” comic and I have been watching a lot of “Girl With the Dogs” grooming videos leading up to this (better than watching the news!) and thought it looked like fun.

The show is 100% all physical comedy as it doesn’t really make sense to have a cat saying anything unless it is GARFIELD (he doesn’t actually talk). That reminds me I must send this show to the “Garfieldfrommemory” artist who only paints bootleg Garfield artworks.

As with the last show I ended up being part of the show as one of the mice that ends up being chased out of the venue and then chasing Puss Puss back in as they have smoked catnip (someone had to actually roll a smoke for them to do this.) The person who actually took their shoes off and got into the bath with them went above and beyond! As always, the amount of enjoyment you will get out of this one is dependent on how much the audience is willing to go along with.

I could not fault any of the physical comedy work, they even got so much into one bit when trying to avoid the “cone of shame” that they hit their head on the low concrete beam in the venue making an audible “CRACK!”

Was not really one big laugh during the show but constantly during each section as people reacted to one thing or another. Again, this would depend on how the audience reacts to the show. Might be a bit better on the weekend than during a mid-week show.

Even though this says “15+ audience” this would be ideal to adapt to a younger audience as it does seem a lot broader type of comedy that could get in family audiences. I am not sure if they actually do other shows with this where they just do a skit with the character?

An ideal show even if you don’t think that much of cats as there are lot of situations to react to and it does not rely on adult concepts and humour that much even though it does have the “catnip” bit in there. Well worth checking out if you get the chance.
