Set in the lead-up to the Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in New York in 1965 budding writer Geoffrey and Beatlemaniac Judith mill around in the week leading up to it. What Geoffrey says about his ideal woman ends up being what Judith says normally which does seem a bit twee but still suits it in a way.
If you wanted an actual documentary about the Beatles I would look elsewhere! This is the most obtuse look at the Beatles and their fandom I could imagine. The closest I could imagine would be my own research about events in old newspapers and I ended up more interested in the events that were happening around the event I was looking for and not the contemporary reporting.
Beatles “riots” in New York go up against the actual race riots in Los Angeles at the time and in the southern state of the USA. While it was a tumultuous time it does seem a bit of a stretch to put that in here as it is only slightly related to the main subject.
This is a documentary you get when someone not from the country that it is meant to be about makes it as an outsider’s perspective is always different than what someone who lives there would do. It reminds me of the Judge Dredd comics famously being a satire of democracy and policing in the USA but being a UK originated series from the 1970s.
There is no actual music in this from the band as it would cost too much and a lot of the footage seems to have the sound put in after but it seems to be about vibes more than the actual facts and figures. There are enough documentaries and movies about the Beatles by now if you want that!
I was a bit surprised by the clowns going up to the Beatles fans with big STONES signs, surely you could think of something original!
Not really something I would rush to see unless you are interested in more of the social aspects of 1960s USA and how it related to the fandom of the Beatles of the time.
