The Corner Hotel has always been associated with big shows for me or something where bands are making an effort and want to put something on in a big room. Before the Brunswick Ballroom opened in its current format this was one of the bigger rooms in town before you went to the even bigger venues like the Forum which is really only for headliners or international touring acts.

The Caravan Music Club was opened as an alternative to this venue for an older audience in the suburbs who did not want to be out so late but this venue still has its place as long as you know you are not getting home until late even if you do leave straight away afterwards.

It did take me a few years to actually see a show here but I was more into Hong Kong movies and video games when I first moved to town and did not really start seeing bands that much until 2003.

I can immediately tell the years where I had the longer contracts as I had the luxury of going to events here during the middle of the year and not just Dan and Al every year as they put me on the door.

Missing years for Dan & Al was pretty rare, even I had something else on, was not living in Melbourne or due to work (I think I quit the job due to having to miss the gig).

Early years I could bring my camera in and take photos whenever but they changed that so you have to ask the band management now. I actually had other people complaining to me about this, I do not know what I could say to that I am not responsible for the policy it is the band management.

I can remember when they changed the policy of access to the band room during the show, it was due to all the rider spiders going into the band room during Dan Warner’s Night Parrots launch. Also that was the latest I had stayed after a show until the Disco Machine show when I was talking to Wil and Emily outside at 3am.

Cheers to the crew at the Corner Hotel and ‘SOS’ who got me a seat the last couple of times I was there due to not being able to stand for long periods at the moment. See you at Dan & Al later in the year if I don’t get to anything else.
